Elementary students build knowledge through an in-depth study of the world and how it works. Studies are integrated across disciplines that include Qur’an, Islamic studies, geography, biology, history, language, mathematics, geometry, science, art and practical life. Exploration of each area is augmented by the children, who organize visits beyond the confines of the classroom to gain real-life knowledge from community resources, such as the library, planetarium, botanical garden, science center, factory, hospital, etc. This approach fosters a feeling of connectedness to humanity and encourages children’s natural desire to make a contribution to the world.

Lower Elementary is also a time for children to develop their sense of justice, practice the deen of Allah, learn how to read the Qur’an and work together as a community. They practice care and respect for one another and the other living beings in the classroom (pets and plants). Their research and studies, along with their developing sense of purpose within the classroom community, connect them to the world and empower them to become agents for change in society.
